Question: What is Carnauba Wax ?
Answer:
Carnauba Wax is a natural vegetable wax derived from the leaves of the
Carnauba Palm tree (Copernica Cerifera) - native to Northern and
North-Eastern areas of Brazil. Also known as the "Tree Of Life", it plays
an important part in the daily lives of the natives.
The leaves are harvested during the dry months from September through to
February and is strictly regulated to a maximum of twenty leaves per year
from any one palm tree.
The Wax is extracted from the leaves via special processing methods to
create a handmade masterpiece, a pot of Carnauba Wax Paste.
Carnauba Wax is the hardest and most transparent wax known giving an
incredible rich, deep glaze.
Question: How long will the wax
last ?
Answer:
As with any wax, polish, paint sealant or other
protective coatings they all need regular maintenance. If neglected the
protective film will deteriorate and eventually wear off. Natural
carnauba wax will provide long lasting durable protection against many
environmental contaminants.
RACEGLAZE 42 will last around 4 months,- a good full season before
topping-up the wax. (From £125)
RACEGLAZE 55 should last 6 months or so, possibly longer before
re-applying another coating of wax (From £150)
Other factors include weather and road conditions, parking
location (is the car garaged or left out on the drive under
trees !).
Naturally, if the car is waxed regularly it's protection
will be maintained.
Question: Will I wash the wax off when I clean my car?
Answer:
No. Not if you are careful. Choose a high quality PH Neutral formula
shampoo, it's worth checking the labels. It should read 'Wax Friendly',
or similar wording.
Raceglaze Aqua Bathe Wash & Wax is highly recommended as it's unique
formula not only safely cleans, cutting through dirt and grime, it also
preserves the wax and further enhances the shine and finish due to it's
very high Carnauba content.
Always use warm water. However, do avoid strong detergents, industrial cleaning products, and
certain traffic film removers, such products are likely to affect the wax
over a very short period of time.
Question: What is the best way to
wash my car ?
Answer:
By
Hand, it is always advisable to wear protective
gloves as well and in addition to have a kneeling pad available.
Note: Before using any wheel cleaning product, always
read the information and check any safety advice/precautions.
Start by washing the wheels first (clean each wheel
individually) wet the wheel, carefully spray the wheel cleaning
solution on to the wheel and gently wash using an old sponge and a soft
brush if necessary. Keep a separate bucket to rinse the wheel
sponge.
Rinse wheel thoroughly with hose using a low pressure
rose attachment.
When all the wheels are washed rinse the entire car and
spray off loose dirt and mud with hose (a pressure cleaner is useful
with care). Using a good quality wash mitt,
wash the car using plenty of soapy water (use a good quality PH Neutral
shampoo, we strongly recommend RaceGlaze 'Aqua Bathe' Wash and Wax.)
and drench the
soapy water over the surface, starting from the roof (with soft tops
extra care should be taken as a different cleaning method and product
will usually be required).
Work down washing windows, then each panel, rinsing off
frequently as you go, remove excess water and dry car as soon as
possible using a drying towel or high quality chamois.
Use a separate old leather to dry the wheels.
Good job done !
Question: When is the best time to
wash my
car and do I need to take any precautions ?
Answer:
Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight and when the
weather is too
hot (summertime) especially if you have a black or dark coloured car. If
anything wash your car on a cloudy / overcast day and either early in
the
morning or early evening is best, when it is cooler. During washing keep cold water
flowing over the car at frequent intervals, rinsing as you wash down.
Leather off as quickly as possible to avoid water marks forming on the
paintwork.
Warning
If you spray water directly on to hot dry paintwork (especially black cars) the
water droplets begin to evaporate almost immediately leaving unsightly
watermarks over the bodywork that can be difficult to remove.
Problems with Environmental Contamination
Your Concerns Discussed
We are quite often asked questions about a variety of particular problems
regarding different types of pollutants coming into contact with the cars
paintwork and how best to remove or eliminate them.
More often than not, its the usual, irritating things that we can all
expect to experience from time to time whilst out driving or when the car
is stationary. The following are some examples of frequent contaminants.
- Bird Lime/droppings
- Tar deposits accumulating on the lower part of the bodywork, especially
when driving along a stretch of newly resurfaced road.
- Tree sap/resin droplets floating down onto the car.
- Insects and bugs.
- Rail/fall out/brake dust deposits.
- Sand deposits from rain storms.
- Road salts, clays, oils, fuel, agricultural soils.
- Volcanic Deposits/Fallout
- Volcanic Rock, Glass, Sand and Ash Particles.
- Aviation (Kerosene) Fuel Deposits from Jet-Aircraft
Although most of these problems will be rectified during our full
treatment, there are one or two exceptions, bird lime being by far the
most severe contaminant-in my view, bird lime is nothing less than evil!
it is very harmful to paint work as it is highly acidic and extremely
corrosive and abrasive. It rapidly burns and eats through the paint
surface and damages the paintwork. It must be very carefully removed
immediately-or as soon as possible to reduce the risk of permanent damage.
Before attempting to clean off or remove bird lime it must be
neutralized-please ask for further information. We can and do offer advice
when required to all our customers before or following treatment.
